OUGD 503 Brief 01 Ideas

IDEA 1

Research

I discovered an interesting graphic designer who may be useful for my own design. Peter Bankov.
I do love his work, it's spontaneous, really post modern like David Carlson. I think it's brilliant because he shows that good design it's not only about rules, guilds and conventional layout. In that way I could create a real impact look at my cover

 Peter Bankov work

So my first idea is it to play with shapes and an no formal composition. It seems appropriate for a crime book. And generally for cover, they have to be visible amongst others.

SECOND IDEA

When I was looking for inspiration I noticed some designer opt for a minimal and simple design to show something strong behind. Just a word or little illustration to question the reader. And also minimal style is timeless. It helps to focus on the book’s title and authors name.

To Simplify the book cover. I will need an inspiration for my artwork, choose a picture to draw that relates to the title. It will create mysteriousness and suspense. However Truman Capote didn't deal with suspense, doubt or uncertainty. We clearly know right from the start the different victims and their murderers. So I do think it's not really appropriate to In Cold Blood.
