I decided to work on the word 'torment', it appeared in the first few sentences of the book. Adrian don't feel great, he struggle with all teenager years problem. He express his self through a diary to feel better and to try to resolve his issues with life.
My idea is to work with the lines of a traditional book diary, I would like a background like that. The reader will know at first glance what the book is about.
I discovered some artists who played with paper lines to make them more expressive and to insert character on it.
I found the 3D aspect interesting, it adds depth and originality.
SECOND IDEA
My second idea is to 'print' with potatoes, the aim is to cut shapes in a potatoes and to use it like a stamp. I have to think about shape which give clues about Adrian and his life. Like glasses, pen, heart... I might place shapes on top with each other, to create a vibration, to show that his life is not really smooth, he struggles with things
With this method I could use many colours and create informal association, however I am worried about the outcome, I don't want a too childhood look in the end. Indeed the target is teenager if the design represent a too young target audience the cover won't be coherent and the marketing will suffer.
