The first cover to do is for an adult non fiction book. The brief is clear, we have to create a bold cover with a strong impact. They also mention in the instructions, we should invent a strong and original concept, why not shocking and surely striking and eye-catching.
I've also noticed they want us to consider a strong use of typography for our cover.

ABOUT THE BOOK
In Cold Blood is is a non-fiction novel by American author Truman Capote. It’s an amazing work in the true crime genre. it details the 1959 murders of four members of the Herbert Clutter family in the small farming community of Holcomb, Kansas, parents and 2 children. Truman Capote's comprehensive study of the killings and subsequent investigation explores the circumstances surrounding this terrible crime and the effect it had on those involved. So in other words the book deals with the reasons and motivation of the criminels killing that family. Capote applied psychoanalysis to the crime.
_Without suspense
'It is the American dream turning into the American nightmare ... By juxtaposing and dovetailing the lives and values of the Clutters and those of the killers, Capote produces a stark image of the deep doubleness of American life ... a remarkable book'

Research about the previous covers
I found interesting to analyse the existing cover and ideas for In Cold Blood. Thai aim is to not do the same thing, design etc. Obviously people want something different and creative.
I noticed that the red colour is present on almost every covers. The truth is Red is the color of fire and blood, so it is associated with energy, war, danger, strength, power, determination as well as passion, desire, and love. Red is a very emotionally intense color. That is why it seems really appropriate for this type of book. The fact is it's seems also too obvious to use red, maybe really cliché. The title talk about blood so I'm going to use red colour. That's why I want to avoid it!!
Regarding the visual there is different, for me, interesting point of view. First some of them worked on the fact it's a true story. They design their cover with real pictures of the family's victims or used serif font which reminds me the newspaper's typeface. In my opinion it's pretty clever, indeed the story must appeared in national newspapers so it just increases the truth aspect of the story.
