OUGD503 Brief 02 First step

I finally chose to do the first idea, it seems more consistent and to be more compatible with the target audience. I do think the important thing, the thing which make the book original and a best seller, is that is a boy dairy. We read a diary and the reader should know that before opening the book. That's why I concentrate my design around the book lines.

BACKGROUND

I tried to draw lines on the computer but not really straight, or regular. I think a too straight design won't work with teenagers. 

On the front cover I worked on a hole created with the diary's lines, it symbolises all the Adrian's troubles but also his fear. I want to represent Adrian on the verge of ruin, quite worried about life and about growing up. 

ILLUSTRATION

I chose to draw the Adrian's character, he is the hero of his life and his story. The book is all about him so I think it's really necessary to represent him on the front cover. The potential reader has to be intrigue by the character and learn more about his life and his problems.

To do so I preferred, like the lines, have a drawing not too straight or beautiful, but with mistakes, defects, not perfect... That's why I used my left hand to draw it. I'm a right handed person, so the movements are less flowing and spontaneous. I really want something that shaking. It shows the state of uncertainty, the state of doubts of Adrian.

In regards with his position, Adrian doesn't want to fall so he holds something. But he still seems to be worried about something else.

COLOURS

It's my first attempt with the colours, I think it's not lively enough. It should be more powerful as the cover must work on it own.
